Haven't seen too many of these since joining the forum, so I thought I'd share this recent pickup of the well-known Daniel Webster "Jacka$$" note.

The original print run on this Rosecrans/Huston issue was about 2.6M, fairly typical for these workhorse notes of the 1880s but much lower than runs of the small red seal versions in the 1890s.

I figured I wan't going to find a better note in a 64 holder, so I went for it - seen many not as nice graded 65. The seal is  a nice pink/red, my old scanner washes everything out.

Please show yours!

I have 4 FR#'s and I'll throw in an 1878 for good measure.

Awesome pickup -- I wouldn't have any problems if they graded that a 65, the back is a gem+

Always looking for low S/N Red Seals / $5 FRNs: 1950a - 1969b

Wonderful example Bruce. The combination of Daniel Webster, Pocahontas, and an Eagle look great together. I wonder if this is from the hoard they found in a Florida Bank back in the early 2000’s.

To me my note deserves a 65, but just to show how terribly wrong PMG can be, check this eBay listing (and the poor owner) on the same note - 271285627563.

I picked up one in the same run. The margins on the front are slightly better than the 64 so both seem to be graded fairly unless mine deserves a 66 🙂.  Fr_107_$10LTN_65EPQ.jpg  Fr_107_$10LTN_65EPQ_Rev.jpg

I also collect the artwork of F.R. Gruger.  The above is his original illustration of "The Devil and Daniel Webster" as it first appeared in the Saturday Evening Post.  It seems an appropriate addition to this thread.

I don't have one, I collect the babies from that era.  😎😆
