Good morning all!

I am new to the forum and was hoping  if anyone would be able to share any insight regarding a $100 2009 Star Note that contains a tear at the blue ribbon.  The piece is torn apart from the paper right at top of where the U an N meet in the word United.  The torn piece is still physically connected to the face of the bill.

Any ideas related to what I should do with it and possible value are greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum Ed.

It’s not an error. It’s actually considered damage and would lower any perceived premium.

Looks like a minor error to me.

This area of these notes was a major problem back in the day.

Being a star, it has some premium, but the error is so minor that it would add little premium if any.

An error specialist would be the right buyer.

Thanks Steve!  I really didn’t know if it was something big or just a defect.

Thanks for you help!  I will probably just put it on eBay.  I can’t say I know of any error specialist, but I am sure there would be a few on eBay!

I see the note is slightly circulated.  As such, I am going with post-BEP damage.

I just noticed a tear in the bottom right, so yes, it could very well be damage.

With the tear, the note is only worth face value.

I see damage.  The paper over that strip is very delicate, if it gets caught on anything, it'll tear.
