Maybe the coin itself was particularly worn. As I looked at the vignette, the lettering on the far right $3 coin seems strange. Like it was badly hand-drawn. What think you?

You see, on this forum, especially this sub-forum, we celebrate the excellent work of all those engravers of yore. I was simply unprepared to see a BAD ENGRAVING. But that is what it is.
I became interested because I wanted to re-create the scene with actual discs. But then I noticed that date didn't look right. Now you point out the lettering on the right which is just awful.
Now admittedly, engraving a copy of somebody's else's art might be less than thrilling, but still ...
