We have a new forum!

This is is a forum for everyone to post their collections. We felt like it would be cool to have a forum specifically designated for displaying collections.

The format will be open to each member. If you want your threads locked after you design them to keep out the “clutter” of twenty pages of replies...or if you want a more open format with commentary, either way is cool.

I will be assisting members with their galleries however they wish. Let me know how I can assist!

I have been getting some questions about a few issues here with the Gallery Forum.

Why the locks? This is the one time that a lock is not a bad thing. 😋 Because we do not have a formal gallery database function, we created (well...actually, Tiger to be precise!) this forum exclusively for the display of collections...in other words, mostly for pictures. But since we are, in practical terms, still dealing with text-based forum threads, we still have to consider how it affects the simulation of a Gallery.

Here is an example of a problem. If you post a thread with a collection and then members start a long, drawn-out conversation behind it that runs for 10, 15, 20 pages. Then when someone clicks on the Gallery thread, it goes straight to the end, with the most recent conversation post. Thus making it harder to locate the actual "gallery." By locking the thread comments can be kept out.

Obviously this requires a Moderator's assistance. Which is why I am offering my help to anyone that wants to set up a gallery-style thread.

Each thread's parameters are entirely up to the creator of that Gallery thread. If you want comments...fine, if not...also fine. How you do it is entirely up to you.

Once again, let me know how I can help! 🙂

Does it work that way for everyone ? The reason I ask is, when I click on a thread, the forum software knows and remembers me and takes me to the first unread comment for me on that thread, and not to the end. So, if someone clicks on a thread they haven’t opened before, I believe it starts at the beginning and not at the end.  Maybe I’m wrong...

If you look at the top of a forum post with more than one page of replies, there is a link to the first entry. You can simply click the "Show full post.." and it will display that 1st post with out losing your place in the thread. In this case the 1st post is from 2017 and last was 9 hours and 1670 comments ago.

I don't care one way or another about locking a Gallery, just that the initial post can always be simply viewed from any page of comments, no matter how many pages there are.

You are correct Steve. That is the way the system is set up to work.

However, Locking a thread still has some useful benefits. If you want to create a set t need organize it and do not want anyone else to post at all or until you are done, locking the thread will be useful. Only Moderators can lock a thread (I looked to see if I could allow members full control in this Category and I cant) so you will have to ask for it to be done. We can also delete posts and such so if you need any help with the "organization" of a thread in the Gallery Category, all you need to do is ask for it and we will oblige.
