Who coined the phrase, "Don't take wooden nickels?"

That's a loaded question...there are several sources that claim the origin of that phrase. Most commonly, it refers to the depression era when money was tight and people were paid very little for their day's worth of labor. The first wooden money was made in Tenino Washington as depression scrip. Some people were against it since it was just printed wooden discs. Some dismissed them as something anyone could make. To warn people not to take them, the phrase - "Don't take any wooden nickels" was born.... Just one source that claims the phrase though.
